SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS

There are sophisticated complexities in developing and supporting ‘music professionals’.
Communication in all its forms is becoming increasingly significant – and different skills are needed depending on whether you are communicating with investors, audiences or stakeholders.
We have a number of strategies through which we hope to support professional musicians, both performers and teachers, to develop their communication skills.
Conservatoire students
As part of our planned Apprentices project, we aim to deliver a strand of activity which is focused on the needs of Conservatoire students.
Often, as the time for final recitals approaches, students spend a lot of time preparing technically, but less time preparing themselves for a performance. We believe that the Pitch, Pace, Perform method of working is just as applicable to students who are completing their studies as it is for younger performers.
In 2016, 2017 and 2018, we intend to deliver workshops which are targeted at Conservatoire students.
If you wish to find out more about these workshops as they are confirmed, please contact us here.

Peripatetic music teachers
While we hope to reach an increasing number of young musicians through our Apprentices project, we know that the peripatetic music teachers in our region are in contact with many, many more.
We intend to develop our Pitch, Pace, Perform programme so that it can be used by peripatetic music teachers to encourage young musicians to communicate better with audiences. From our pilot project, we know that these skills increase their confidence as players and improve their technical competence.
Contributing to sector-wide discussion
We wish to use our work to influence the delivery of music education within our sector. We will do this through our links with the Association of British Orchestras, articles we write for the arts press and presentations at conferences like the annual ABO conference and the Europe-wide Classical:NEXT event.
